New Year’s Eve passed mostly peacefully, without any fatal incidents. However, there were some occurrences where individuals sustained bodily injuries and material damage caused by the use of fireworks.

This was reported by the Kosovo Police, who stated that in order to manage security during the year-end holidays and the New Year, they developed and implemented an operational order to increase security measures and police presence in locations or areas where large gatherings of citizens were expected during the celebrations.

The operational order focused not only on maintaining public order and safety, but also on traffic monitoring and control, as well as managing border points, including the international airport.

“Based on reports received from the Regional Police Directorates, New Year’s Eve, the transition to the new year, passed mostly calmly, accompanied by several different incidents. Fortunately, no fatal cases were reported, although in some regions, there were reports of incidents involving bodily injuries and material damage due to the careless use of fireworks.

Several cases stand out, including ‘causing general danger,’ fire hazards, bodily injury, and illegal possession of weapons, which, in consultation with the prosecutor, the police have initiated cases for further legal treatment and competence,” the police statement reads.
