The world’s richest man, Elon Musk, has sparked speculation after changing his name on the social media platform X to “Kekius Maximus.”
This entrepreneur – also a strong supporter of elected U.S. President Donald Trump – has not provided any explanation for why he changed his name and profile picture, which now features the character Pepe the Frog – a humorous meme image often used by far-right groups.
This move has triggered the cryptocurrency world, as the value of the meme-based cryptocurrency – a digital currency inspired by such humorous internet images – named “Pepe the Frog” has immediately skyrocketed.
Musk has influenced cryptocurrency values in the past through comments on social media, but his exact intentions remain unclear.
“Kekius” appears to be a Latinized version of the word “kek,” which refers to “loud laughter” and has been popularized by online gaming enthusiasts.
“Kek” is also the name of the Egyptian god of darkness, often depicted with the head of a frog.
In Musk’s new profile on X – the platform formerly known as Twitter – Pepe the Frog is dressed in military attire and sitting at a gaming keyboard. /REL
