Shaip Kamberi, the sole Albanian MP in the Serbian Parliament, has called for unity among Kosovo politicians to strengthen their position in negotiations with Belgrade. Kamberi stressed that Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić is attempting to delay progress in the EU-mediated dialogue, knowing that the final resolution will be unfavorable for Serbia.

In an interview with KosovaPress, Kamberi stated that Vučić’s leadership is aware that Kosovo will never again fall under Serbian control. He accused Vučić of downplaying Serbia’s culpability for genocide in Kosovo while trying to extract political gains through manipulation.

Serbia’s Delaying Tactics and Unresolved Issues

“Vučić is trying to minimize Serbia’s responsibility for its wartime actions and present itself as an equal among other nations. Privately, they know Kosovo will never be Serbia again—no Serbian boot will ever step on Kosovo. Yet, through geopolitical maneuvers, Vučić aims to gain concessions, leveraging the argument that neither side can win everything. However, openly admitting such positions would weaken Serbia’s bargaining power in the dialogue,” Kamberi said.

Kamberi criticized Vučić for attempting to divide northern Kosovo through terrorism, referencing attacks on Kosovo’s infrastructure and law enforcement. He highlighted two major incidents:

  1. The Banjska Attack (September 2023): Serbian terrorists killed Kosovo Police sergeant Afrim Bunjaku.
  2. The Ibër-Lepenc Canal Explosion (November 2024): Critical infrastructure was targeted in Zubin Potok, an act deemed terrorism orchestrated by criminal groups supported by Belgrade.

“Vučić understands these methods have reached their limits. Kosovo’s sovereignty is undeniable, and Serbia’s efforts to destabilize the region will fail,” Kamberi asserted.

The Need for Unity Among Kosovo Politicians

Kamberi emphasized the importance of internal unity in confronting Serbia. “Fragmentation in Kosovo’s political scene undermines our collective strength. The Albanian leadership must present a united front against an adversary like Serbia, especially in demanding accountability for war crimes and ensuring such atrocities are never repeated.”

Discrimination in the Preševo Valley

Kamberi highlighted ongoing ethnic cleansing in southern Serbia, particularly in the Preševo Valley, through the passive deregistration of Albanians. He criticized the international community for focusing only on the rights of Kosovo’s Serb minority while ignoring the plight of Albanians in Serbia.

“Serbs in Kosovo enjoy more rights than any other minority in Europe under Kosovo’s Constitution and the Ahtisaari Plan. Meanwhile, Albanians in the Preševo Valley are denied basic rights. Equal treatment of minorities is crucial for lasting peace and stability in the Balkans,” Kamberi said.

He also condemned Serbia’s policy of obstructing cross-border visits by Kosovo officials and the media’s role in fostering anti-Albanian sentiment.

Kamberi dismissed Serbia’s recent legislative moves, including declaring Kosovo a “special social protection zone,” as irrelevant and legally void within Kosovo’s territory.

“These actions are part of Serbia’s continued refusal to accept reality. Such laws hold no validity in Kosovo and only highlight Serbia’s inability to move forward,” he concluded.
