Starting today, January 4, 2025, the Thumanë-Kashar highway in Albania will implement toll fees for all vehicles. The toll rates vary based on vehicle categories, beginning at €2.5 (including VAT) for standard cars.
Toll Rates by Vehicle Category:
- Category 1: Motorcycles
- Pay 70% of the base rate of €2.5.
- Final toll: €1.75 (rounded to €1.8) or 170 Lek (using the EUR/ALL exchange rate of 1:98).
- Category 2: Passenger Cars
- Base toll: €2.5 with VAT.
- Converted to Lek: 250 Lek (using the EUR/ALL exchange rate of 1:98).
- Category 3: Vehicles with 2-3 Axles and Height Over 2.2 Meters
- Pay 250% of the base rate.
- Final toll: €6.25 (rounded to €6.3) or 620 Lek (using the EUR/ALL exchange rate of 1:98).
- Category 4: Vehicles with 4 or More Axles
- Pay 350% of the base rate.
- Final toll: €8.75 (rounded to €8.8) or 870 Lek (using the EUR/ALL exchange rate of 1:98).
The Thumanë-Kashar highway, a 21-kilometer stretch, opened for traffic on June 30, 2024. Constructed by the private company holding the 35-year concession, the project cost €271 million. The concession agreement anticipates total revenues of approximately 1.3 billion Lek (excluding VAT) over the 35-year period. Additionally, the contract includes provisions for state-guaranteed minimum revenues during the initial years of operation.
