Aleksandar Sekulović, a collaborator of the Helsinki Committee for Human Rights, stated that the response from Serbian authorities and their political rhetoric regarding the incidents in Kosovo are so banal that almost every word can be predicted in advance. Sekulović argued that these incidents are attempts to destabilize Kosovo.
In an interview with The Geopost, Sekulović, who is also the vice president of the Anti-Fascist Alliance of Serbia, emphasized that considering the overall picture of Serbian clerical nationalism in the region, not just in Kosovo, and the expectations of Serbian authorities that the Trump administration would support this “muscle-flexing” policy, he believes that the coming period will likely lead to further escalation of tensions and conflicts.
Commenting on Serbia’s reactions to the terrorist attack in Banjska and the recent attack on the Ibar-Lepenc canal, Sekulović stated that the response from Serbian authorities and their political rhetoric concerning the incidents in Kosovo is so predictable that almost every word can be anticipated.
“According to them, the Serbian side has nothing to do with these events, and Prime Minister Kurti is to blame for everything. They allegedly distance themselves from these events, but in reality, they perceive them as their own, which is most clearly seen from the fact that a national mourning was declared in Serbia for those who fell in Banjska, and the individuals who died are referred to as ‘Serb heroes’ in state media,” he said.
Sekulović further stated that the incidents are attempts to destabilize Kosovo.
“The real interest of this perverse and irrational policy is to show that Kosovo is politically and culturally ‘inferior,’ incapable of independent life, that its authorities cannot guarantee peace and stability, which means that it should return under Serbia’s care,” he concluded in his interview with The Geopost.
