Kosovo’s Minister of Defense, Ejup Maqedonci, has stated that the Serbian threat to Kosovo is far from over. Referring to statements made by Prime Minister Albin Kurti in recent days, Maqedonci emphasized that the terrorist attack on Banjska on September 24, 2023, and the assault on critical infrastructure on November 29, 2022, are not expected to be the last terrorist attacks against Kosovo.
“I want to clarify to the public, especially to the Albanians of the Republic of Kosovo, that it is a fact that the Kosovo Army, the Kosovo Police, and all security institutions in Kosovo are prepared to confront any challenge or threat that aims to undermine our sovereignty, territorial integrity, and the lives of our citizens,” Maqedonci stated on RTSH.
The Minister of Defense of Kosovo further explained that the threats facing Kosovo stem from Serbia’s hegemonic and aggressive approach. According to him, as long as Serbia maintains Kosovo as a territorial part of its Constitution, this reflects Belgrade’s intentions both politically and in the security domain.
He pointed out that Serbia continues to shield the group responsible for the terrorist attack on Banjska (September 24, 2023), and the international community, in his view, has not applied enough pressure for Belgrade to extradite them to Kosovo.
“The risk and threat remain, as long as Serbia maintains its hegemonic and aggressive political stance not only toward the Republic of Kosovo but also toward its other neighbors, as long as Serbia keeps Kosovo in its Constitution as a territorial part of its own. This signifies the root of the entire problem the political aspect of Serbia’s relations with its neighbors, especially with the Republic of Kosovo,” Maqedonci said.
“In terms of security, we continue to view the group that attempted to annex our territory on September 24, 2023, and continues to carry out activities against Kosovo, as a constant threat. This group remains free in Serbia, unpunished, and there has been a lack of international pressure for them to be held accountable and extradited to Kosovo,” he emphasized.
