KFOR Commander Enrico Barduani stated that the attacks in Banjska and Ibr-Lepenc are two separate incidents. He added that independent investigations are needed to determine the facts and assign responsibility.
Barduani emphasized that KFOR has no role in investigating the recent incident, as law enforcement is not within its mandate.
In an interview with the media outlet Kossev, Commander Barduani confirmed that any presence of the Kosovo Security Force (KSF) in the north requires prior approval from KFOR.
Following KFOR’s security assessment after the attack on the canal at the end of November last year, the commander of these forces did not approve such a request. Additionally, regarding the Banjska incident, he confirmed that no such request was received.
Among other things, he stated that KFOR would continue to maintain its permanent presence at the Ibar Bridge and would carry out regular patrols in the surrounding areas.
According to Barduani, the situation in Kosovo is calm but sensitive, with a constant risk of potential escalation.
“Isolated incidents may still occur. Completely preventing these incidents is complex, as they often involve criminal and terrorist elements that operate secretly and unpredictably,” he emphasized.
However, according to him, KFOR continues to monitor the situation in northern Kosovo, ensuring a stable and secure environment.
“Support for local institutions and maintaining neutrality, being fully prepared to respond to any security developments,” he added.
