The European Union Election Observation Mission (EU EOM) will begin its work on Saturday ahead of the parliamentary elections in Kosovo on February 9, 2025.
Nathalie Loiseau, Head of the EU EOM, will present the mission’s mandate and objectives at a press conference in Prishtina. Following the presentation, observer deployment will begin on Sunday, according to the mission’s official statement.
For the upcoming elections, 28 political entities with 1,280 candidates have been certified. Citizens will vote for a political entity and up to ten candidates for deputies, a change from the previous election law, which allowed the selection of up to five candidates.
The newly elected parliament, comprising 120 seats, will then choose the new government. The current government, led by Albin Kurti of the Vetëvendosje Movement, will be succeeded by the new parliamentary majority.
The electoral campaign will run for a month, beginning on Saturday, January 11. This marks the first regular election since Kosovo declared its independence in 2008. Unlike previous elections, the electoral silence will begin one minute before the opening of polling stations at 07:00 on February 9 and last until their closure at 19:00, lasting 12 hours.
