U.S. President Donald Trump vowed to “put America first” in his first speech after being sworn in.
“The golden age of America begins right now,” Trump declared.
“Our top priority will be to create a proud, prosperous, and free nation.”
“Our sovereignty will be reclaimed, our security will be restored, and the scales of justice will be rebalanced,” Trump said, adding that the “wild, violent, and unfair” actions of the U.S. Department of Justice would come to an end.
He criticized the administration of his predecessor, Joe Biden, for mishandling the immigration crisis, stating that it had provided “shelter and protection to dangerous criminals” who had “illegally entered our country.”
“The government has given unlimited funds to protect foreign borders, but has refused to defend our American borders,” Trump said before the attendees in the U.S. Congress.
He added that America would soon be “greater, stronger, and more extraordinary” than ever before.
“The rays of sunshine are spreading across the world, and America has the opportunity to seize this chance like never before,” Trump said.
He announced that he would sign an executive order today, declaring a national emergency at the U.S.-Mexico border.
“All illegal immigrant entries will be immediately halted,” he said, adding that the government would begin the process of sending millions of “criminal foreigners” back to the countries they came from.
Trump also addressed inflation and the rising cost of energy, which were central to his campaign.
He said he would instruct all cabinet members to do everything in their power to “defeat” inflation and “quickly reduce costs and prices.”
He reiterated his previous promise that his administration would increase oil and gas drilling on American soil.
“America will be a producing nation once again,” he said, adding that his country “has more oil and natural gas than any other nation on Earth.”
Trump also discussed his plans for the automotive industry, saying that the country would once again produce cars “at a pace no one could have dreamed of just a few years ago.”
Trump, who survived two assassination attempts last year, said that “God saved his life” to make America great again.
“I stand before you as proof that nothing is impossible. In America, the impossible is what we do best,” Trump said.
He concluded his speech by saying that America would not be intimidated.
“Our future is ours, and our golden age has just begun,” Trump concluded.
