Serbia Buys Votes for Srpska Lista Ahead of Kosovo Elections

The Serbian government has reportedly started a campaign to secure votes for Srpska Lista (Serb List) in the upcoming February 9 elections in Kosovo. The party aims to retain all ten parliamentary seats reserved for the Serb community in Kosovo.

Financial Support to Unemployed Serbs

From February 1, Serbia’s government has allocated 20,000 dinars (€170) each to 5,000 economically disadvantaged and unemployed Serbs in Kosovo. This initiative was announced by Petar Petković, the head of Serbia’s so-called “Office for Kosovo.” Petković indicated that financial assistance would extend to other categories within the Serb community in Kosovo.

Potential Electoral Outcomes

Local Serbian media polls suggest Srpska Lista might secure eight seats, with Aleksandar Arsenijević and Nenad Rašić’s party each potentially winning one seat.

Concerns Over Fair Elections

This move has sparked accusations that Serbia is influencing the elections by financially incentivizing voters, raising questions about the fairness of the electoral process in Kosovo.
