In the parliamentary elections for the Assembly of Kosovo, which will take place on February 9, 2025, 125,852 Kosovo citizens will have the right to vote for the first time.
This number includes young people who will turn 18 on the day of the elections. These new voters make up 6% of the total number of voters, which stands at 2,075,868.
This data was made public by the spokesperson of the Central Election Commission (CEC), Valmir Elezi, who stated that this number of young voters is compared to the last national elections, which were the 2021 local elections.
“The voter list for the Kosovo Assembly elections contains 2,075,868 voters. This list includes citizens with the right to vote, including those who will turn 18 on the day of the elections, February 9, 2025. In general, compared to the last elections held in Kosovo, the 2021 local elections, the number of young voters who will vote for the first time is 125,852. These citizens are first-time voters who have turned 18 between the two election processes,” said Elezi to Kosova Press.
Furthermore, according to Elezi, the right to vote or to stand for election is regulated by the Constitution of Kosovo.
“Electoral rights and participation rights are specified in the Constitution of the Republic of Kosovo, specifically Article 45. According to the Constitution, every citizen of the Republic of Kosovo who has reached the age of eighteen, even on the day of the elections, enjoys the right to vote and to stand for election, except when this right is restricted by a judicial decision,” said Elezi.
According to the Law on General Elections, citizens with the right to vote within the country and in diplomatic missions may vote if they are accurately identified in the voter list and provide one of the valid identification documents issued by the Republic of Kosovo, such as an ID card, passport, or driver’s license.
