The European Union has appointed Peter Sorensen as its new envoy for the dialogue.

Officially, he began his work on February 1 and will focus solely on the dialogue between the two neighboring countries, rather than regional Balkan issues, as his predecessor did.

Another key factor for success in the dialogue also relates to U.S. involvement.

The U.S. Special Representative for the Western Balkans has traditionally offered support for this process.

Currently, this position is held by Alexander Kasanof.

In public statements, he has urged both parties to fulfill all the commitments they have undertaken.

Their obligations date back several years. The parties have been negotiating since 2011 and have reached numerous agreements, but not all have been implemented.

The EU frequently reminds both parties that progress in the dialogue process is tied to their path toward Euro-Atlantic integration.
