While in Madrid for a two-day visit filled with meetings and conferences, Prime Minister Edi Rama found time for an interview with the newspaper El Mundo.
The Prime Minister spoke on a range of issues, from the ceasefire in Gaza, Trump’s international policies regarding blocking funds, the TikTok ban in Albania, and broke his silence regarding the elections to be held tomorrow in Kosovo.
When asked what results he expects from these elections, Rama said he had no preference for the winner, as he has a good relationship with all the candidates.
“Kosovo is a democratic, vibrant, and diverse country. Like all the countries of the Balkans, it fights with passion and noise, but that’s fine. I wish them well, but I have no preference for the election results. I am a friend and respect everyone,” he said.
When addressing migrants and the future of the agreement with Italy, Rama called on Europe to implement a common migration policy, protect border control, but also remain “open” to legal immigration.
Regarding Trump’s international policy and the situation in Gaza, Rama gave a brief response:
“I have no comment on this. I think the plan should be clarified, understood, and harmonized with all other actors. It’s still too early.”
On Trump’s decision to suspend funds from USAID, which also affects Albania, Rama assured that there would be no problems with the Afghan refugees living in Albania.
“There will be no problem with the Afghan refugees living in Albania. If they want to stay in our country, they can do so. They can’t return to their country and stop the violence. These aren’t large numbers for us, just a few hundred people.”
