As talks continue, the Kremlin has stated that President Putin is prepared to negotiate with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, “if necessary.”
“Putin himself has said that he is ready to negotiate with Zelensky, if necessary,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters.
“However, the legal foundation of any agreements needs to be discussed, considering that Zelensky’s legitimacy may be called into question,” he added.
Peskov also stated that Russia is not opposed to Ukraine’s membership in the European Union, as long as it does not pose a threat to security.
“This is the sovereign right of each state. We are talking about integration and economic processes, and in this regard, of course, no one can dictate anything to another state. We will not do this.”
“However, our position on security issues, military alliances, is entirely different. That is a different matter, and everyone knows this,” Peskov concluded.
