European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen stated that, although “the securities of several decades are being destroyed” in Europe’s relations with other countries, there is no reason to jeopardize the EU’s relationship with the United States.
Von der Leyen has led a shift in the European Union’s relations with China, which she described as non-risky but not severing ties with Beijing.
Even with the sudden and concerning changes in foreign and defense policy under US President Donald Trump, she said the answer is a “categorical no” if a similar strategy is currently needed toward Washington.
