Aleksandar Vučić is using the Serbs from Kosovo as human shields to protect himself and his regime. He has even brought out the criminal group “Red Berets,” who have committed war crimes in Kosovo, Bosnia, and Croatia, onto the streets.
Žarko Korać, a retired professor at the Faculty of Philosophy in Belgrade, claims that Vučić’s regime is doing everything it can to intimidate citizens and convince them to stay at home, rather than participating in protests.
According to Korać, under Vučić’s orders, people from Kosovo have been brought to Belgrade and are being used as human shields. “He brought people from Kosovo who receive social assistance from the regime and live off of it. He placed them in tents in front of the Presidency and uses them as human shields,” said Korać.
The professor emphasized that the regime is using every possible method to prevent protests. “Of course, this will not work. The entire Serbia will flood into Belgrade tomorrow to support the students who have been protesting for the fourth month, after the deaths of fifteen people who lost their lives when a tent collapsed at the Novi Sad train station,” Korać added.
He also recalled that the Serbian president, who has recently increased his public appearances, constantly warns of violence and street confrontations, spreading panic and fear while seeking ways to block approaches to Belgrade and prevent citizens from protesting.
“Before the building of the Serbian Presidency, Vučić’s ‘students who want to learn’ have set up camp. This is a group organized by the regime, staying day and night in tents, receiving money for participation in television shows controlled by the government. Among them, there are small-time smugglers, drug dealers, and semi-criminal figures,” Korać said.
He expressed particular concern that just days before the 22nd anniversary of the assassination of Zoran Đinđić, Vučić had brought out members of the criminal unit “Red Berets,” whose leaders organized and executed the assassination of the former Serbian prime minister in 2003.
“Members of the ‘Red Berets’ have committed numerous crimes in Croatia, Bosnia-Herzegovina, and Kosovo. In addition to the assassination of Đinđić, they have executed former Serbian Presidency Chairman Ivan Stambolić, attempted to kill Vuk Drašković, executed four of his associates on the Ibar highway, and killed journalist Slavko Ćuruvija… And these are the people Vučić needs to protect him from students?!” concluded Korać.
