Following reports of Mike Waltz’s departure from his role as National Security Advisor, U.S. President Donald Trump has announced via social media that he will nominate Waltz to serve as the next U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations.

“I’m pleased to announce that I will nominate Mike Waltz to be the next United States Ambassador to the United Nations. From his time in uniform on the battlefield, to Congress, and as my National Security Advisor, Mike Waltz has worked tirelessly to put our nation’s interests first,” Trump wrote.

According to Trump, the position of National Security Advisor will temporarily be filled by U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

“In the meantime, Secretary of State Marco Rubio will serve as National Security Advisor, while continuing his strong leadership at the State Department. Together, we will keep working relentlessly to make America and the world safe again. Thank you for your attention to this matter!” the President added.
