President Vjosa Osmani has extended her congratulations to Friedrich Merz on his election as Germany’s new Chancellor, Reporteri.net reports.
In her congratulatory message, Osmani emphasized Germany’s role as one of Kosovo’s most important allies and expressed hopes for deeper collaboration to support Kosovo’s legitimate ambitions.
“On behalf of the people of Kosovo, I congratulate Chancellor Friedrich Merz on assuming office and beginning the mandate of the new German government. At a decisive moment for Europe’s unity and security, Germany’s continued leadership is more important than ever. As one of Kosovo’s key allies, we eagerly anticipate strengthening our partnership and cooperation to advance Kosovo’s legitimate journey toward membership in the EU and NATO,” Osmani wrote.
This message comes as Merz secured the necessary majority of 325 votes in the second round of voting in the Bundestag, after narrowly falling short in the first round by just six votes.
