Acting Prime Minister Albin Kurti has commented on the political developments following the February 9 elections, focusing on the deadlock that has emerged in the Assembly. During a meeting of the General Council of the Vetëvendosje Movement, he rejected the proposal of LDK leader Lumir Abdixhiku to form a transitional government, emphasizing that his interest lies in establishing a normal government.

Kurti noted that after the necessary reforms have been implemented, forming a coalition with Vetëvendosje would be easier for the LDK. He said he sent two invitations to Abdixhiku, both of which were declined.

The Prime Minister added that he also invited leaders of other parties to discuss the possibility of reaching a political agreement, but only the PDK showed interest.

“To help break this deadlock, I invited the leaders of the PDK and LDK, but the latter refused to come, even though some LDK deputies said there should be a political agreement. I sent another letter proposing a Vetëvendosje-LDK coalition, but that was also rejected. The LDK formed a coalition with us in 2020, and now, after our reforms, it should be even easier. Perhaps the new leadership has different preferences. We want a normal government—not a temporary one, not a transitional one, and certainly not one led by the opposition. That phrase is a paradox, because the opposition is the opposition, and it should remain the opposition to the government,” Kurti stated.
