Rks News previously reported that Kosovo’s Minister of Internal Affairs, Xhelal Sveçla, stated that the bomb threat targeting the Assembly of Kosovo was made from a Serbian number belonging to Lazar Živković, and that profiles associated with him featured images of war criminal Ratko Mladić.
Who is Ratko Mladić?
Ratko Mladić was the military commander of the so-called Army of Republika Srpska (VRS) during the Bosnian War (1992–1995). In 2021, he was sentenced to life imprisonment by the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals (IRMCT) for atrocities committed during the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Under Mladić’s command:
- Sarajevo endured a siege lasting over three years, causing thousands of civilian deaths and widespread destruction.
- Towns such as Foča, Prijedor, and Višegrad were subjected to ethnic cleansing of non-Serb populations — acts defined as crimes against humanity.
- The most horrific crime attributed to him was the Srebrenica Genocide, where over 8,000 Bosniak Muslim men and boys were massacred in July 1995. This atrocity has been internationally recognized as genocide.
Mladić’s life sentence, upheld on appeal, is seen as a major milestone for international justice and the victims of the Bosnian war.
Sveçla: Kosovo Treating the Threat as High Priority
Minister Sveçla reiterated that Kosovo’s security institutions are handling this case with utmost urgency, and that international assistance will be sought to track down and prosecute the individuals responsible.
“Regardless of the protection they receive in Serbia, those who threaten Kosovo’s institutions will not escape justice,” Sveçla emphasized.
