A tragic incident occurred on Sunday at Ujman Lake, where 33-year-old Rrahim Latifi is suspected to have jumped from a height of 20 meters.

The search operation for the missing migrant’s body continues, but no trace has yet been found, more than 24 hours after the case was reported.

Veton Elshani, Deputy Director of Police for the northern region, spoke to the media, appealing to citizens not to jump from the bridge:

“Citizens and migrants coming here shouldn’t see this bridge as a short distance or low height worth jumping from. Professionals have jumped from here — people see them on TV and think they can do the same. Please don’t. We must be careful. Now, all we can hope for is to find the body. We’re standing with the family and trying not to speculate or say too much, because the pain is immense for them. We hope the institutions here will succeed,” Elshani said.

He also addressed the lack of warning signs in the area:

“We’ll discuss this with Ibër Lepenc to see whether it’s their responsibility or the Municipality’s to install proper signage. I believe Ibër Lepenc will handle it. But even if signs are there, if people decide to jump, they will still jump. So awareness is crucial.”
