Pristina, August 26, 2025 – After nearly seven months of political deadlock, the Kosovo Assembly has returned to normal functioning. In its 58th session held today (Tuesday), the Assembly elected Dimal Basha as the new Speaker.
Following Basha’s election, deputies also confirmed three Deputy Speakers from the main political parties:
- Albulena Haxhiu from Vetëvendosje (LVV)
- Vlora Çitaku from the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK)
- Kujtim Shala from the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK)
However, tensions arose when the Assembly moved to elect Deputy Speakers from non-majority communities. Unlike the previous process, these positions were not voted as a package, a decision that was opposed by Srpska Lista.
The dispute highlights the ongoing divisions between Kosovo’s Albanian majority parties and Serbian representatives, particularly over institutional representation and decision-making procedures.
