Kosovo Police Seize Cigarette Smuggling Worth €80,000 in Leposaviq

The Kosovo Police prevented a significant cigarette smuggling operation in the municipality of Leposaviq, seizing a large quantity of cigarettes suspected to be illegally smuggled from Serbia, valued at approximately €80,000.

The operation was carried out by units from the Border Department, specifically the Rapid Intervention Unit – North, on August 25, 2025. During a tactical-operational plan based on operational intelligence, they discovered an abandoned VW Transporter with Kosovo license plates in the village of Cerajë, Leposaviq.

Inside the vehicle, authorities found 797,000 cigarettes of various brands, all without tax stamps, suspected of being smuggled illegally into Kosovo from Serbia.

According to initial estimates, the total value of the confiscated goods is around €80,000.

By order of the State Prosecutor, the vehicle and cigarettes were seized and sent to the customs terminal for further legal procedures by the Kosovo Police and Customs.

The Kosovo Police confirmed that they will continue intensive activities to prevent and combat smuggling and other illegal activities that threaten the country’s security and constitutional order.
