Former Speaker of the Albanian Parliament and Minister Elisa Spiropali has reacted to the testimony of James Rubin, the first defense witness in the trial against Hashim Thaçi at the Kosovo Specialist Chambers in The Hague.

In a Facebook post, Spiropali stated that defense testimonies mark an important step toward justice, emphasizing that the Kosovo Liberation Army (UÇK) fighters have waited too long and unfairly for this process.

“Today, in The Hague, the defense testimonies for Kosovo’s liberators began, after a long and undeserved wait. At this moment, when the presentation of evidence and defense witnesses will finally remove the fantasy-driven stains from the name of the UÇK, justice must once and for all overcome injustice. Any attempt to equate the accusations of guilt against the liberators with the freedom they brought to Albanians would be a shameful equalization of evil with good — a stain of shame in the history of peoples fighting for freedom and justice,” Spiropali wrote.

Her remarks come on the day when former U.S. Assistant Secretary of State James Rubin delivered his testimony as part of Thaçi’s defense case in The Hague.
