Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has called on U.S. President Donald Trump to take a firm stance against Russia, including sanctions and security guarantees for Ukraine.
In an interview with Sky News, Zelensky said that this decisive action has been missing in order to advance peace negotiations.
He specifically requested that Trump act personally to stop Vladimir Putin.
Zelensky also expressed hope that UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer could obtain more clarifications from Trump during his upcoming state visit to the United Kingdom, scheduled to begin Tuesday evening.
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio told journalists in Israel that there is a possibility Trump may meet again with Zelensky during the UN General Assembly next week in New York.
“He will continue his efforts. If peace is possible, Trump wants to achieve it,” Rubio said.
