Hamas has sent a letter to former U.S. President Donald Trump, requesting his mediation for a 60-day ceasefire in Gaza in exchange for the release of half of the hostages currently held by the group, according to Fox News, citing a senior Trump administration official and a source involved in the negotiations.
The Times of Israel confirmed the existence of the letter through a source familiar with the matter. The document is currently held by Qatar and is expected to be delivered to Trump later this week.
Meanwhile, Channel 12 News reports that Hamas has not yet signed the letter, though it could do so within a few days.
Separately, Qatar has paused its mediation efforts regarding the release of the remaining 48 hostages in Gaza following Israel’s earlier attempt to target Hamas leaders in Doha earlier this month.
