Before officially announcing France’s recognition of the State of Palestine, French President Emmanuel Macron addressed the United Nations, urging an immediate end to the war in Gaza and the release of the 48 remaining hostages held by Hamas.
Macron declared that “the world is just moments away from being able to achieve peace”, stressing that “we cannot wait any longer.”
The French leader also condemned the October 7 attacks, reaffirming his vision of a region where two states live side by side in peace.
“Nothing justifies the ongoing war,” Macron said, adding that “everything compels us to bring it to a final end.”
His remarks came just moments before France joined the growing number of countries officially recognizing Palestinian statehood.
