European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has welcomed the first-phase peace agreement between Israel and Hamas, highlighting the importance of diplomatic efforts led by the United States and allied countries.

In an official statement, von der Leyen thanked U.S. President Donald Trump and commended the diplomatic engagement of Qatar, Egypt, and Turkey in facilitating the deal, according to IndeksOnline.

She emphasized that all parties must fully adhere to the terms of the agreement, stressing that hostages must be released safely and a lasting ceasefire established.

The EU will continue to support the rapid and secure distribution of humanitarian aid in Gaza, and when the time comes, we will be ready to assist with recovery and reconstruction,” von der Leyen said.

Von der Leyen described the current moment as a unique opportunity to create a credible political path toward lasting peace and security, anchored in a two-state solution.

This chance must be seized. It is an opportunity to build a reliable political route for peace and enduring stability, firmly rooted in the two-state framework,” she added.

The EU’s commitment underscores its longstanding role in supporting humanitarian relief in Gaza while preparing for post-conflict reconstruction efforts, contingent on full compliance with the ceasefire agreement.
