U.S. President Donald Trump has called for an immediate stop to the fighting between Russia and Ukraine along the current frontlines.

In a statement to the American media, Trump urged both sides to cease military operations and return home, suggesting that territorial disputes be discussed at a later stage.

“It must stop now, at the battle lines. Go home, stop the killings, and end this,” Trump said late Sunday.

If his proposal were accepted, Russia would retain control over large portions of Ukrainian territory, including most of the Donbas region. This represents a shift from Trump’s previous statements, in which he indicated that Ukraine could reclaim all occupied territories, including Crimea.

Trump is expected to meet soon with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Hungary. Last week, he hosted Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy at the White House. He emphasized that the conflict could end quickly if both sides show flexibility.
