BELGRADE — Serbian authorities have confiscated around 900 souvenir magnets and keychains from a shop after the items were found to depict a map of Serbia without Kosovo. The Ministry of Trade said the items “caused concern among citizens” and were seen as implying recognition of Kosovo’s independence.
The inspections were carried out on November 10 at a store owned by Chinese nationals following complaints from the public. Officials said 871 items featuring national symbols and nine magnets showing Serbia without Kosovo were removed from sale.
The move underscores the sensitivity in Serbia over Kosovo’s status, even in commercial products, reflecting ongoing tensions regarding the region’s independence declared in 2008.
