Students and citizens of Nish took to the streets Wednesday evening in front of NisTV, protesting the announced appearance of Education Minister Dejan Vuk Stanković. Although the minister’s interview had already been recorded, the demonstration became a direct expression of outrage at the SNS regime’s systematic intimidation of educators and suppression of dissent.

Protesters stormed the station’s courtyard, cornering journalists, dragging a garbage container to the entrance, and hurling eggs at the building. Chants of “Your hands are bloody!”, “Resign and go to prison!”, and “Dejan, go away!” underscored mounting anger at a government that punishes teachers and students for demanding justice and dignity.

With only a token police presence until the very end, the state’s strategy of intimidation rather than protection was on full display. Students declared that Niš will not remain silent while the SNS crushes freedom of thought and expression, highlighting the regime’s willingness to target independent voices even in education.

The protest reflects a larger pattern of the SNS government: controlling media narratives, silencing critics, and punishing anyone who dares challenge its authoritarian grip, leaving educators and students on the frontlines of the fight for basic rights in Serbia.
