A court session is currently taking place at the Basic Court in Prishtina for Bedri Shabani and Muharrem Qerimi, both suspected of espionage. The two defendants were escorted into the courtroom by police officers, according to RKS News.
Presiding judge Rrahman Beqiri announced that, as the previous session could not be held, today’s hearing would start from the beginning.
However, accused Bedri Shabani stated that, due to health reasons, he could not continue with the proceedings. “I was examined by the prison doctor and have received treatment. I am under medical supervision every 30 minutes. Therefore, due to my health condition, I am unable to continue today’s session,” Shabani said.
After consulting with the judicial panel, the session was temporarily suspended until 10:20 AM. Judge Beqiri added that the court will contact the Correctional Service to obtain the medical report for the defendant before proceeding further.
Shabani and Qerimi are suspected of collecting and transmitting information to the Serbian Intelligence Agency (BIA) regarding the Kosovo Liberation Army (UÇK), Kosovo Police, the Intelligence Agency of Kosovo (AKI), and the Kosovo Correctional Service (IPK). The Special Prosecutor’s Office filed charges in February of this year, accusing Shabani of espionage, while Qerimi faces charges of espionage and illegal possession of weapons.
