Defense Minister Pirro Vengu revealed in Rome details regarding defense agreements signed during the first joint meeting of the Albanian and Italian governments.

Vengu disclosed that the state-owned company “KAYO”, responsible for the production, demilitarization, and trade of weapons, ammunition, equipment, and military technologies, will produce military ships in cooperation with the Italian company “Fincantieri” under a signed contract.

“For three decades, this is the first time we are renewing our military partnership with Italy, for many reasons within NATO and regarding the military industry we want to develop on both shores of the Adriatic. Two agreements were signed between the state company KAYO and the Italian giant Fincantieri for the production of military ships, not only in Pashaliman. This is a significant achievement of the meeting between the two governments. Another agreement between KAYO and the Italian company Leonardo, specializing in military technology and cybersecurity, was also signed, with particular focus discussed at the table of the two prime ministers,” Vengu said.

The Defense Minister further revealed that Italy will also assist Albania in enhancing Civil Protection capabilities.

“We are also receiving significant support regarding Civil Protection, where we have had excellent cooperation with the Italian side. We want to elevate this partnership further by developing early warning systems, training programs, and the full emergency resilience system in our country, as well as implementing the EU requirement for the European emergency number 112, where all citizens and visitors can report any emergency,” Vengu added, according to A2CNN.
