Kosovo President Vjosa Osmani has proposed a temporary budget extension to prevent a potential crisis in public sector salaries. The President emphasized that the measure aims to protect citizens’ wages and welfare amid delays from some political parties in approving the budget and Growth Plan.

“I proposed exploring other constitutional options, including a budget extension, so that at least until 31 March 2026 citizens do not face a situation without salaries or welfare,” Osmani stated.

However, Ariana Musliu-Shoshi, deputy of the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK), criticized the proposal, calling it a breach of constitutional powers and a dangerous institutional precedent.

“This is an action that exceeds the constitutional competencies of the President and sets a dangerous institutional precedent,” Musliu-Shoshi said, emphasizing that solutions should follow legitimate institutions and constitutionally defined procedures, rather than bypassing parliament.

She added, “The solution is not in circumventing the Assembly or making improvisations outside the law, but in full respect of constitutional procedures and a government that takes responsibility for the country, rather than hiding behind crises it created itself.”
