Negotiations between Lumir Abdixhiku, leader of the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK), and Fatmir Limaj, head of NISMA Socialdemokrate, have failed to produce any agreement, at least for now.

According to information obtained by Reporteri.net, the key obstacle was the number of positions offered to Limaj on LDK’s parliamentary candidate list, as well as the expectation that NISMA’s candidates would be merged into Abdixhiku’s list without NISMA’s party label.

Reporteri.net attempted to contact Limaj on Thursday, but he did not respond to calls nor provide written comments.

Yesterday, the NISMA leader confirmed that his party had indeed entered negotiations with LDK, dismissing reports that discussions were also taking place with PDK.

Meanwhile, LDK leader Abdixhiku stated earlier this week that a portion of LDK’s candidate list for the December 28 elections remains open, including for NISMA and Fatmir Limaj.

“LDK will ensure that part of its list remains open for other parties, including Mr. Limaj and his MPs. We will discuss this in the coming days, but let’s say we are willing,” Abdixhiku said.

“We are open both to parties and to individuals,” he added.

The failure of these talks highlights the continued fragmentation within Kosovo’s political landscape, especially as parties seek alliances ahead of the fast-approaching parliamentary elections.
