Regarding Kurti’s statement about the lawsuit, Vucic said that Kurti has threatened Serbia that he will sue it for genocide and now he wants to use the institutions of the Council of Europe to initiate a lawsuit against Serbia.
On March 30, Kurti stated that the authorities are preparing for Serbia to be accused of crimes committed during the war in Kosovo. “This is part of a massive attack on attacks and pressures on the Serbian people and Serbia. We will resist them and we will win”, said Vucic.
He said that his behavior was made possible by Kurti because a committee in the Council of Europe approved a report by the rapporteur, Dora Bakoyannis, for Kosovo to join the Council of Europe. Vucic said that Kurti has so far waited for another state to file a lawsuit for genocide because Kosovo is not a member of the United Nations and cannot file a lawsuit at the International Criminal Court. “Someone else can do this on his behalf, which is a difficult political issue,” said Vucic, adding that now Kurti wants to use the institutions of the Council of Europe to sue Serbia.
The Council of Europe is the leading organization in Europe in the field of human rights. 46 countries are part of it, including 27 member countries of the European Union and all the countries of the region.
The European Court of Human Rights – headquartered in Strasbourg, France – monitors the implementation of the European Convention on Human Rights.
