EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs Kaja Kallas has sharply condemned the violation of Moldova’s airspace by Russian drones, calling the incident unacceptable and a direct threat to civilian aviation.
In her official statement, Kallas stressed that Russian military activity is increasingly destabilizing the region, putting not only Ukraine but also its neighbours at risk:
“Russian drone violations of Moldovan airspace are unacceptable and endanger civilian air traffic. The EU is investing €20 million this year in Moldova’s air defense to help strengthen the country’s security. Moldovan skies cannot become another victim of Russia’s war.”
Moldova — which borders Ukraine — was recently forced to close its airspace due to Russian drone attacks, underscoring once again the spillover effects of Moscow’s aggression.
These incidents further highlight Russia’s reckless disregard for international norms and the growing need for enhanced European security coordination in the face of persistent threats.
