New UNMIK Head, Dane Peter N. Due, Arrives in Kosovo

Peter N. Due, the new Head of the United Nations Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK), arrived in Kosovo today, the mission has announced.

“A warm welcome to Peter N. Due, Special Representative of the Secretary-General and Head of UNMIK, who has arrived in Kosovo. Committed to advancing peace and security in the service of the people of Kosovo,” UNMIK said in a post on its official X account.

Who Is Peter Due

Peter Due, from Denmark, is the newly appointed Head of the United Nations Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK), having assumed the position on November 13. He succeeded Caroline Ziadeh, who served as the UN Secretary-General’s Special Representative and Head of UNMIK since November 2021.

According to UNMIK, Due brings more than 30 years of experience in the field of international peace and security. Throughout his career, he has held numerous senior positions within the United Nations system, including assignments related to the Western Balkans region, Kossev reports.

He previously served as the Secretary-General’s Representative and Head of the United Nations Office in Belgrade (2013–2015), and also worked as a Political Affairs Officer with UNMIK in Pristina.

In addition to his work within the United Nations, Due has also served at the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, both in Copenhagen and in Eritrea.
