Kosovo President Vjosa Osmani has stated that U.S. President Donald Trump deserves the Nobel Peace Prize, saying she would nominate him for the prestigious award if she remains in office at the time.

In an interview with the American magazine Newsweek, Osmani was asked whether she would nominate Trump for the Peace Prize. She responded, “Of course, if I am president when that moment comes.”

According to Newsweek, only certain individuals have the right to submit nominations for the Nobel Peace Prize, and the nomination deadline ends at the end of January. Heads of state are among those eligible to propose candidates, and the winner is announced each October.

“Donald Trump has publicly expressed for years his desire to win the Nobel Peace Prize, calling himself the ‘chief peacemaker,’ while claiming to have achieved agreements that stopped conflicts in different parts of the world,” the magazine noted. However, analysts and international observers have questioned how many conflicts were actually prevented during his term.

Newsweek also highlighted that Osmani, speaking from the World Government Summit in Dubai, UAE, emphasized Kosovo’s special relationship with the United States, describing the people of Kosovo as “the most pro-American in the world” and “very grateful for every American administration.”

The magazine also reminded readers that the U.S. led NATO’s air campaign against Serbia in 1999, which ended the war in Kosovo and the humanitarian crisis caused by the expulsion and ethnic cleansing of hundreds of thousands of Kosovo Albanians.
