European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has described the hosting of the European Political Community Summit in Tirana as a historic and symbolic milestone for the Western Balkans. In a post on social media platform X, von der Leyen emphasized that the heavy rain that poured during the event did nothing to dampen the spirit of the participants.

She expressed deep gratitude to Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama for the warm hospitality and praised the summit as a “powerful symbol” of the region’s closeness with the European Union. Von der Leyen highlighted that this was the first summit of its kind ever held in the Western Balkans, calling it a testament to the EU’s ongoing commitment to the region’s integration.

“Our European family of values is larger than the borders of the European Union. We share a continent and a common future,” she stated, sending a clear and heartfelt message about building a closer, more stable future between the EU and the Western Balkans.
