An anonymous letter containing a disturbing threat was discovered on Friday afternoon inside the Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris, sparking serious concerns about a possible attack over the weekend.
According to Le Parisien, the letter, typed on a typewriter, was found by the cathedral’s sacristan near the area where candles are placed. It read:
“Do not open the cathedral on October 11 and 12. There will be foreign visitors who, with the help of other visitors, have already hidden knives in the cathedral in recent days. They will carry out a massacre. Please, do not open the cathedral.”
Security measures were immediately tightened following the discovery. The cathedral’s security staff promptly notified authorities, and a thorough inspection of the entire building was conducted. Although no immediate evacuation took place, security levels were significantly increased.
Police have launched an investigation to identify the author of the letter and determine whether the threat is credible or a hoax. So far, no weapons or suspicious items have been found within the cathedral.
The incident comes at a sensitive time for France, which remains on high alert due to ongoing national security threats. Notre-Dame, one of the most iconic landmarks in the French capital, has often been a potential target for extremist groups, making the situation particularly delicate.
Authorities have now reinforced security not only at Notre-Dame but also across other sensitive locations in Paris.
