Several people, including children, were injured after a tourist bus carrying around 50 passengers returning from Niagara Falls to New York City veered off the road and crashed into a ditch, state police reported.

The bus overturned after losing control for “unknown reasons,” said New York State Police spokesperson James O’Callaghan, adding that some passengers were trapped inside, while others were pulled out.

Rescue operations are ongoing near the crash site along Interstate 90, close to the town of Pembroke, east of Buffalo. New York Governor Kathy Hochul described the incident as “tragic” and said that emergency teams are working to rescue and provide assistance to all those affected.

The Thruway has been shut down in both directions near the crash site, state police confirmed.
