The Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK) has taken a firm stance against forming a coalition with the ruling Vetëvendosje (VV) party, and has rejected supporting Glauk Konjufca as prime minister, signaling a deepening political rift amid Kosovo’s ongoing institutional deadlock.

Speaking after Thursday’s meeting of the party’s Presidency, AAK spokesperson Kushtrim Xhemaili declared that the party’s unequivocal position is in favor of early parliamentary elections as the only legitimate way out of the current political crisis.

“There is no coalition with VV, and we have no votes for Konjufca or for anyone from their ranks,” Xhemaili asserted.

His statement comes in response to comments made by AAK leadership member Besnik Krasniqi, who publicly suggested that Ramush Haradinaj could be a candidate for president – a proposal that had not been discussed within the party’s leadership, according to Xhemaili.

“All those who go public with other ideas should first present them at the Presidency meeting, as Mr. Krasniqi was absent from that session,” he added.

AAK’s stance further complicates divisions among opposition parties, as Kosovo faces uncertainty following the failure to form a new government after the recent elections. With no clear majority in sight, and with VV’s prime ministerial nominee Glauk Konjufca lacking the necessary parliamentary support, prospects for a stable government appear increasingly unlikely.

Political analysts warn that Kosovo could soon face snap elections if the stalemate persists, a scenario now openly endorsed by AAK.
