The leader of the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK), Lumir Abdixhiku, has stated that Avni Dehari, the presiding officer of the constitutive session of the Assembly, is acting according to his party’s (Vetëvendosje) agenda. He called for strict adherence to the procedures outlined in the Constitution of Kosovo, Gazeta Sinjali reports.

Abdixhiku emphasized that LDK is ready to participate in consultations, as announced by the President, but expressed dissatisfaction with the current political developments. According to him, the ongoing situation is unacceptable.

“It is in the national interest that Kosovo’s institutions are formed and that the MPs are sworn in. I call for respect of the Constitution and the procedure. I hope the presiding officer of this session — who happens to be the oldest member and from the leading party — respects the scenario prepared by the Assembly Secretariat, not the one dictated by the party. If we start following party scripts in the Assembly, we’re violating constitutional order. There is a scenario prepared by the Assembly which we are prepared to follow.”

Regarding the verification of mandates, Abdixhiku stated that LDK will vote against the report on mandate verification until government officials submit their resignations.

“If they’re confident that everything is in order, let them vote. We believe this is unconstitutional. We will vote against. We are not against our own mandates. There are 105 MPs with valid mandates. Only 15 should not have their mandates verified because they have not resigned.”
