On the 15th anniversary of the International Court of Justice’s (ICJ) advisory opinion on Kosovo’s independence, the leader of the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK), Lumir Abdixhiku, emphasized the importance of the ruling as a milestone in Kosovo’s international affirmation.
“On July 22, 2010, the International Court of Justice confirmed that the declaration of independence of Kosovo did not violate international law. This historic determination was the result of dedicated work by top professionals and the unwavering support of our international allies, led by the United States and the democratic countries of the European Union,” Abdixhiku stated.
He underlined that the decision was more than a legal win—calling it “a seal of international legitimacy” for Kosovo’s statehood and its historical and political right to be free and independent.
Abdixhiku also paid tribute to LDK’s role in the state-building process, saying:
“The Democratic League of Kosovo remains proud of its irreplaceable contribution to this process, in the path toward statehood and Kosovo’s international affirmation. Today, 15 years later, we honor all those who contributed to this monumental achievement and reaffirm our commitment to a democratic Kosovo, equal among the free nations.”
