Lumir Abdixhiku, the leader of the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK), paid tribute at the grave of Kosovo’s first president, Ibrahim Rugova, on the 35th anniversary of the founding of the LDK.
Abdixhiku expressed that Rugova remains an enduring figure in Kosovo’s history, referring to him as “the architect of our state” and the “historical leader” of the movement for freedom, independence, and democracy.
“Ibrahim Rugova was and remains the architect of our state, the historical leader of the movement for freedom, independence, and democracy,” Abdixhiku stated. “He was the man who faced the greatest challenges of his time with wisdom, vision, and resilience, qualities that define great leaders. His life’s work is the cornerstone of our Republic – a legacy that continues to inspire and guide us every day. His name is an irreplaceable value in the history of Kosovo.”
In his remarks, Abdixhiku emphasized that the LDK, as the political and ideological successor of Rugovism, feels the weight of the historic responsibility to achieve the vision set out 35 years ago. “A free and sovereign Kosovo, a member of NATO and the EU, with lasting friendship with the United States, was our mission yesterday, it is our mission today, and it will undoubtedly be our mission tomorrow!” Abdixhiku concluded.
