On the 27th anniversary of NATO’s intervention in Kosovo, LDK leader Lumir Abdixhiku proposed that 24 March be formally recognized as a national day in Kosovo.

Abdixhiku emphasized that the date is not merely a mark on the calendar but a moment to remember when history changed course for Kosovo.

“Today, nearly three decades later, we recall that our freedom was not a coincidence but a historical alignment of our sacrifices with the just decision of our allies. From today’s perspective, we can appreciate how rare and fortunate this alignment was. Therefore, we have a sacred duty: to preserve this friendship, strengthen our Euro-Atlantic path, and never forget why and how we became free. Freedom and friendship are not just memories—they are responsibilities, every day.

In light of this responsibility, perhaps we should begin by formally recognizing 24 March as a national day of the Republic of Kosovo—not just as a calendar date but as a moment to remember the day history took a new direction for Kosovo,” Abdixhiku wrote.
