Students from the Faculty of Technical Sciences have published data claiming a significant drop in voter support for the ruling Serbian Progressive Party over the past four years, describing it as an “absolute decline.”

According to their figures, the party led by Aleksandar Vučić lost thousands of votes across multiple municipalities in the latest local elections compared to 2022.

In Aranđelovac, SNS reportedly dropped from 17,711 votes in 2022 to 13,030 in 2026 — a loss of 4,681 voters. The local election commission also annulled results at one polling station after complaints, where a student-backed list had outperformed the SNS coalition.

Similar trends were reported elsewhere:

  • In Smederevska Palanka, SNS lost 3,621 votes (from 17,802 to 14,181)
  • In Kula, support fell by 3,591 votes
  • In Knjaževac, the party lost 2,826 voters
  • In Bor, the decline was 2,208 votes
  • Additional losses were recorded in Sevojno, Bajina Bašta, Majdanpek and Lučani

Students also alleged attempts to influence final results through what they described as “directed complaints” in certain areas.

Despite these reported declines, SNS has retained power in multiple municipalities, though analysts and critics suggest the results may indicate weakening support at the local level.

The political context remains tense, as Ana Brnabić recently stated that early parliamentary elections have not been called due to global instability. She also indicated that the ruling party may ask Vučić to run for prime minister, a move that would require significant political changes.

Vučić himself has said such a decision would depend on polling data and whether there is a viable alternative to his leadership.

The developments come amid ongoing protests and political polarization in Serbia, with elections remaining a key point of contention between the government and opposition.
