Kosovo’s acting Minister of Defense, Ejup Maqedonci, stated in an interview on RTV Dukagjini’s “Personale” program that the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) war could be considered among the “cleanest” in human history.

However, Maqedonci criticized both Kosovar society and the political class for failing to adequately protect and promote this “glorious part of national history” after the war. He highlighted continuous international pressure on Kosovo to sideline its liberation past, facilitating a new order in the Balkans.

Regarding the establishment of the Specialist Chambers (Kosovo Specialist Chambers and Specialist Prosecutor’s Office in The Hague), Maqedonci commented that more could not have been done to prevent its creation at the time.

“We did not even have certainty about the future of the country… our entire society, but I believe also all those who were in politics for these 25 years, have not done enough to preserve the values of the KLA, to promote the just and clean war of the KLA, and to prevent the intentions of Serbia and its allies to denigrate the KLA,” he declared.

Maqedonci further asserted that the trials in The Hague are not merely personal judgments but target a cause. He argued that by prosecuting or seeking to convict KLA leaders, the “entire structure” is being condemned. When asked about the state’s current efforts to protect these leaders, Maqedonci responded, “It should be the opposite, I believe.”

He concluded that the lack of a unified and consistent stance in defending the history of the KLA war has allowed Serbia to continue its efforts to criminalize the conflict through international narratives and legal initiatives.
