The Kosovo Food and Veterinary Agency (AKU) has detected the presence of aflatoxin B1 in two shipments of corn, totaling 51 tons, imported from Serbia and intended for animal feed.
According to the official statement, inspections carried out by AKU inspectors and laboratory analyses of collected samples confirmed that both shipments contained prohibited levels of aflatoxin B1, a substance harmful to animal health and the food chain.
As a result, one of the shipments was immediately returned to the country of origin, while the second shipment has been blocked and will undergo destruction procedures.
“AKU assures the public that all imported food products are subject to strict inspections to ensure safe food products and protect consumer health,” the institution stated.
The Authority emphasizes that the monitoring of food products, especially imports, will continue intensively to prevent any potential risks to consumers.
